League Ball

League or Recreational ball is a commercially sponsored baseball league, such as Little League, Shadow Creek Sports organization, i9 or YMCA. Each league has a different level of competitiveness. For instance, if you are looking for your child to just learn the game in a non competitive environment, i9 or the YMCA may be a good fit for your player. If you are looking for somewhere for your child that will have better development and more competitive, Pearland Little League might be the place for you. As the oldest and most established league in Pearland, Pearland Little League has made a name for itself nationally as a power house program, advancing to the Little League World Series four times in the past twelve years. The Shadow Creek Sports organization has city run facilities and is slightly more competitve than i9 and the YMCA, but not as competitive as Pearland Little League. From a cost stand point, league ball is the more affordable option vs. select/travel ball. League ball generally has a one time registration fee, ranging from $125-$300. Some leagues require fundraising as well. Here are a list of some league options in the Pearland area.

Select/Travel Ball

Select or Travel ball is designed for players with above average playing skills. Select ball generally has more competition, a bigger commitment is required and the costs can vary depending on what organization you are with. Usually, the games are in a tournament format and are played all over the country. The Houston Area hosts tournaments nearly every weekend and there are many locations spread throughout the entire Houston area. There are also several organizations that host tournaments, such as Perfect Game and United States Specialty Sports Association. Select teams are ranked based upon their body of work vs. other teams in a particular classification. If you win a certain amount of games in AA, your team could get moved up to the AAA division. AA is a moderately competitive level, a step up from league ball. AAA is for more advanced players, who play at a high level. Majors is the division where Elite players and teams play. It is the most competitive level in select/travel ball. Pearland is the home of many select teams and organizations that offer a range of ages from 7U-18U. Generally, the teams offer tryouts for the Spring and Fall seasons. Spring tryouts are about to be in full swing and below is a list of links for teams in Pearland who should be hosting tryouts soon.
