Pearland Patriots Poised for Playoffs!

The junior Pearland Patriots have had 1 goal this season, return to and win the BAFL(Bay Area Football League) Super Bowl. This unit won it all in 2020 as freshmen and are chomping at the bit to get back to the leagues big dance, scheduled to. be played on Sunday, November 20th, 2022 at Rice Stadium. The playoffs begin Saturday and the Patriots are matched up with an old foe and rival, the Sagemont Cowboys. The Cowboys were the dominant team in BAFL during the 90’s, when most of these boys dads were old enough to be playing youth football. The Pats earned the 1 seed in the playoffs this season after finishing the regular season 10-0. A speedy backfield of Da’Marre Thomas and Kaleb Garcia, along with excellent quarterback play from Kadyn Jackson have kept opposing defenses on their heals all season. Thomas is the real deal, his football instincts are sensational for a player his age and his ability to cut and accelerate allows him to create big plays.

As impressive as the Patriots offense is, their defense is what has this squad undefeated. The big man, Jakobey Calderon plugs the gaps up front on the D line, and Linebacker Owen Bumpas cleans up anything that gets through. Defensive Ends, Noah Wells and Jake Sowa are great at shutting down the edge and ball hawks Tate Martinez and Da’Marre Thomas both shed blocks extremely well and play well in space. This defensive unit only allowed 15 points all season and haven’t given up a touchdown since week 2 in a 44-8 rout of Hitchcock.
