We had the great opportunity to have an exclusive sit down with Pearland’s Head Basketball Coach, Steve Bucklew.
On Tuesday at South Houston High School the Pearland Oilers played against South Houston. Pearland won with a score of 55-43. The first half of the game was quite challenging for the Oilers as the half ended with a tied score, but when the second half came, Pearland came out strong and took the lead.
Three Oilers finished with double digits in scoring. Kelyn Adams lead with 16 points and also added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Colen James added 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Javen Hedgeman had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.
The Oilers improved their record to 10-4 with the victory.
This past Friday, December 9th , your Dawson Lady Eagles took on Fort Bend Travis winning 53-36. Liz Davis dominated the Dawson board by scoring seventeen points. Davis’ right-hand- girl for this game was Kristen Shotts, who scored twelve points. Tee Tee Lockhart and Amaya Beckham followed their teammates scoring six points each. Another all-star on the court was Jada Rogers, who was the teams go-to girl for rebounds.
Overall, the Lady Eagles had outstanding stats; making fifteen out of forty-three attempted shots, five out of seven three-pointers, and half of their nineteen attempted free- throws. Congratulations on your win ladies, and good luckin district play.

PearlandSports.com had the great privilege of sitting down with cousins and Oiler superstars, Brooke and Bailey Botkin. Brooke is graduating at the end of the fall semester and taking her volleyball talents to the University of Southern California. Bailey is graduating in the spring semester and will be attending the University of Louisiana-Monroe on a soccer scholarship.

On Monday, December 12, the Dawson Eagles hosted Clear Falls in a nonconference match. Dawson got out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They were up 36-16 at halftime, and eventually won 56-42.Clear Falls played well, but they were outmatched by Dawson.
Karl Nicholas lead the offensive charge for the Eagles with 15 points, followed byJules Moor with 10.
The Eagles travel to Fort Bend Bush on Saturday for a 3pm matchup.
This last Tuesday, December 6th, the Lady Eagles took on the Dobie Longhorns. Throughout the game, our Eagles showed great offense as well as defense. Dawson’s Liz Davis put on a strong offensive showing, scoring 19 points. Also, Teshauna “Tee Tee” Lockhart, Kristen Shotts, Jada Rogers, Braelyn Younger, Amaya Bickham, and Kaylynn Boudreaux scored points throughout the game as well. Elizabeth Tomlinson and Jada Rogers led the team in assists throughout all 4 quarters.
Defensively, Dawson never showed a weak quarter. Jada Rogers with three steals and two blocks along with Liz Davis with four steals set the Eagles on the right track to victory. Also, Jada Rogers had a total of eight rebounds and Kristen Shotts had four rebounds. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Eagles presented amazing determination and strength to take home the win with a score of 42-31. Congratulations to our Lady Eagles!

Tuesday night, December 6th, your Pearland Oilers basketball team went against Clear Creek in a challenging match coming out on top with a score of 59-50. The Oilers played very well against a tough Clear Creek team. Towards the last few seconds of the game, Pearland made sure Clear Creek wouldn’t score and was playing it smart and with maximum effort.
Kelyn Adams lead the Oilers in scoring with 13 followed by Javen Hedgeman and Kenneth Brown, each with 12. Adams also lead the team in rebounds with 7. Hedgeman lead the team in assists with 5 and steals with 4. Brown had 2 blocks on the night and took 2 charges.
NRG Stadium, Saturday Nov 19, Pearland vs Atascocita, the journey ended.
Playoff season can be exciting for one team, and upsetting for the other. This was the second round for Pearland. They lost in a tough game 14-35 against the Atascocita Eagles. As like any team would in the playoffs, the Oilers gave it their best to make it to t
he next round; losing terminated that chance. Even though they lost, there were highlights that they made.
At the beginning of the game, Atascocita had fumbled the ball and Pearland recovered it. Derek Parish tackled the Eagle’s quarterback as he ran for it. Mitchell Johnson also tackled the quarterback as he ran for it. Blake Parish caught an interception. Derek Parish sacked Atascocita’s quarterback. Jaelin Benefield runs and scored the first touchdown for the Oilers and Jacob Keller kicked the extra point right after. Davier Pinkston made a good run going through the Eagles defense. Chase Keasler sacked the Eagle’s quarterback. Quarterback Jacob Whitehead made a good run, passing through the Eagles as he ran for it. Close to the end zone, Twiston Gibson made a good catch giving Pearland a first down. Jaelin Benefield made a great run cutting through Eagle territory gaining many yards and a first down. Down at the end zone with only a couple yards to go, quarterback Jacob Whitehead ran through through the middle and scored a Pearland Oiler touchdown, and Jacob Keller made the extra point right after.
The lady Oilers basketball team had a game on Tuesday the 15th in the Pressure Pit against Clear Falls and won 51-46. It was a close game, but they were able to edge it out during the last few minutes.
Deyona Gaston lead the scoring charge for the Lady Oilers with 13 points and shooting 71% from the field. She also had 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Ravae Payne scored 10 points and had 5 assists and 6 steals. Macey Braswell also scored 10 points.
I interviewed head coach Lauren Martens to ask about progress on the season and she talked about how the girls are gaining more confidence about what to do in close games. She is also excited and ready to keep moving forward.
On Friday, November 11th, the Dawson Eagles gave a good fight against the Clear Brook Wolverines but unfortunately fell short ending with a score of 55 to 49 at The Rig.
Throughout the game, Niko Thomas had multiple great plays scoring touchdowns in the first and third quarter and finally the last touchdown for Dawson in the fourth quarter leaving the Eagles leading at 49 to 42. Also, you can’t forget about Lance Charles scoring a rushing touchdown and Chase Smith scoring in the fourth quarter putting the score at 35 to 42. Claire Jeffress made 6 field goals and Lance Charles along with Bam Smith had great runs throughout the first half of the game.
Of course Dawson’s defense remained strong throughout the game but the whole defense rallied together the first drive of the second half. Desmond Clifton had a great sack at the beginning of the second half along with Joel Smith’s outstanding defensive stops throughout the fight. Unfortunately, this was the last game for the Dawson Eagle football team but they made us proud.
